If you’ve ever experienced an MOT fail, you will be well aware of the sinking feeling as the mechanic reports back and the anxiety over the estimate to fix it! What makes this situation worse is finding out that it will cost significantly more than the car is worth to fix. And that’s just to get a pass, no guarantee it won’t need another expensive garage visit in the short term… It’s an upsetting and often frustrating situation, but one that Charity Car has a happy and hopeful solution for!
Our car recycling centres are ready to collect MOT fails from wherever they are. So there’s no hassle retrieving your car, no arranging storage, no haggling with scrap yards, or trying to get a reasonable deal from a dealer as a trade in, and finally, no bill! All you have to do is choose one of our wonderful charity partners – maybe a cause close to your heart – and donate it in moments, online.
The team here at Charity Car have always been delighted to accept your old car donations for charity, but there is something special about taking the sad situation of an MOT fail and turning it into a meaningful donation.
We had a great message from the lovely Hywel, who used our service to donate his Vauxhall Astra MOT fail to Oxfam. His experience will give you a far better picture of how this situation can be turned into something truly positive…
“When my car failed its MOT and the quote to get a number of faults fixed was over £2,800 it was time to get rid of it and that felt like it was going to be a pain to sort out. In the back of my mind I did know you could donate old cars to charity so I decided to investigate. 10 minutes later I was on the Oxfam website. An email and a phone call after that and I was in touch with Charity Car. Fill in a form with the required details (nothing onerous) and send it off. I was a bit nervous as the car didn’t have much going for it, but Charity Car couldn’t have been more helpful and willing to take it off my hands. They picked it up where it was located and loaded it onto a lorry. That was it and to make it all worthwhile I get an email a few weeks later confirming that my donation raised £160 for Oxfam. Much less painful and much more worthwhile than I’d hoped.” Hywel
Hywel chose Oxfam to receive the donation from his Vauxhall Astra MOT fail. The Oxfam confederation works in over 80 countries around the world, working together to overcome the injustice of poverty. Supporters like Hywel make the charity’s vital work with some of the world’s poorest communities possible, including emergency responses around the world and campaigning to change the things that keep people poor.
“Dear Hywel, we at Oxfam would like to express our most heartfelt thank you to you, for choosing Oxfam for the generous donation of your Vauxhall to us. It’s wonderful that there is value in the car without its MOT and we can assure you that the funds raised from it will go a long way in supporting Oxfam in the delivery of aid and development work, helping others overcome poverty and suffering. Thank you again for your support and generosity.” Oxfam
