Kids Club Kampala works to bring hope and love to vulnerable children and to transform poor communities in Uganda.
Kids Club Kampala was set up to overcome the lack of hope and self-esteem of children living in some of the most vulnerable and poor communities in the urban slums in and around Kampala. What started as a small project in one slum, now feeds, educates, provides health education and counselling for over 4000 children every day, in 18 different communities across Uganda.
Your old car donation can provide funds to help the charity bring hope and continue to achieve sustainable change through its various community-led projects that are changing lives right now:
Access to education
Poor families in Uganda cannot afford the cost of sending their children to school, yet education is essential to breaking the cycle of poverty. The charity’s Encouraging Education Project gives over 600 children the opportunity to learn by taking part in informal education classes in three different slum communities across Kampala – providing a good education, the acquisition of behavioural skills and a safe place to go every day, away from the dangers of slum life. Kids Club Kampala also runs a School Sponsorship programme, which identifies the neediest children and matches them with Child Sponsors, giving them access to formal education and real opportunities for the future.
Keeping children safe
Kids Club Kampala and teams of dedicated Ugandan volunteers, run Kids Clubs in 18 different disadvantaged communities in and around Kampala every week. These clubs provide a safe place where children can build important relationships with staff and other children and most importantly have the chance to just be children; to feel joy and have fun away from the worries of their everyday lives. Counselling is available young people who have been abused, neglected or need support in any way. The charity has also spent time addressing girls’ specific needs including the provision of sanitary pads, specialised health and sex education and emotional support.
Meeting basic needs
Kids Club Kampala is helping children and communities to meet their basic human needs by providing essential items that they would otherwise go without including clothes, shoes, mosquito nets, toothbrushes and school supplies.
The charity’s Feeding Programme provides a hot, nutritious meal to all the children who attend weekly Kids Clubs, as well as a daily meal for every child attending the charity’s Education Project. Food parcels are also given to the neediest families.
Women’s initiatives
Kid’s Club Kampala knows that in order to help vulnerable children, it is vital to empower mothers. The charity’s Women’s Initiatives Project provides new skills, from Adult Literacy classes to various craft and textile skills, and support for local agricultural development. Working together and generating income for their families empowers these women and builds their sense of community. The charity also provides services that the women request, including free HIV testing.
Ewafe project
Kids Club Kampala’s Ewafe Project supports children who have been abandoned in the slums. Emergency help and a safe place to stay, as well as rehabilitation for traumatised children, is the first step. The charity then works towards reuniting children with relatives or finding permanent foster families for them to secure their long-term welfare. Ultimately the charity aims to reduce the number of children abandoned in Kampala and engaging and supporting struggling parents while reducing poverty within communities, means families are better equipped to deal with adversities and end this tragic situation for good.
“Kids Club Kampala would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Charity Car and its generous customers who have chosen to recycle their used cars in this unique and effective way, raising hundreds of pounds for us. We really do appreciate your kind support, which is a huge blessing to our work in Uganda. Thanks to your old car donations we have been able to help more vulnerable kids in Kampala survive and thrive. On behalf of the children and families we support, thank you so much!”
