About Remember Rubén

Remember Rubén provides support to families that have been affected by the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

This charity was set up by Yanique Illidge, who was frustrated by the lack of support available when she lost her son Rubén at just 20 weeks. The charity’s main aim has developed to raise national awareness surrounding the frequency of baby loss and the support that is needed for families during this time.

In 2017 an average of 2,069 babies were born alive each day: 650 of those babies were miscarried and 9 of those babies were stillborn. Many families are left devastated every day.

Remember Rubén supports anyone who is affected by the loss of a baby, whether that has occurred during pregnancy or shortly after or during birth. The loss of a child at any stage is life changing, and requires sensitive support for the traumatised family. This charity recognises the need to provide comfort to families in that situation and to reassure them that even in this most difficult time, they are not alone.

• Remember Rubén makes and donates remembrance boxes to hospitals across the UK to enable families to capture precious memories with their babies that they can cherish for a lifetime.
• Remember Rubén hosts small, informal group gatherings for families to attend to provide vital support from other bereaved families.
• Remember Rubén holds Talk Days with a range of healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, midwives and trainees, to improve their understanding of the effects of baby loss so that they can improve their approach to bereaved families.
• All these activities can make a significant difference to a bereaved family going through a very difficult time.
