Redwings is the largest horse sanctuary in the UK, rescuing abandoned, mistreated and neglected horses and donkeys from across the country, giving them a safe place to live and providing essential veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and lifelong care.
Redwings believes that every horse, pony, donkey and mule has the right to a happy and healthy life, free of fear and neglect. The charity has rescued over 4,000 horses and donkeys since its start in 1984, and cares for over 1,500 animals every single day.
Sadly the vast majority of the charity’s residents have been directly rescued from a situation of abuse or neglect. Others may never have encountered a human being at all. Redwings uses specialised training methods based on the scientific principles of how horses learn, to train them in the most humane and ethical way possible, so they never have to be afraid of humans again. If the horses they rescue cannot be ridden or rehomed, whether that’s for health or behavioural reasons, they will always have a safe and loving home with Redwings. Those horses who are fully healthy and successfully rehabilitated are found loving homes through the Redwings Rehoming Scheme, where its horses can be nurtured and cherished, but always belong to Redwings so they can always return to a sanctuary should they ever need to.
Redwings has over 250 dedicated staff members to help their horses in need. From support staff in its offices to those working out in the field, from specialist veterinary staff to its incredible rescue teams. Every Redwings role is different, but everyone is working towards the same goal – to provide and promote the care and protection of horses and donkeys.
Horse welfare has come a long way thanks to Redwings and its fellow animal welfare organisations. But sadly there are still many horses that need help, and your support can help Redwings give these beautiful creatures the happy and healthy life they deserve.
The Redwings team needs your help, and an old car donation is a great way to support the charity. An average scrap car donation could pay for a full health check on a new arrival or care for six resident horses for a whole day.
