About Sense

Registered charity number: 289868

Sense is the national disability charity that believes everyone should be able to take part in life, no matter their disability.

Sense’s journey began in 1955, when two mothers – Peggy and Margaret, who’s children were born deafblind, realised there was no support available to, and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Sense is now a leading national disability charity that supports children and adults with complex communication needs to be understood, connected and valued. Research revealed that there are 1.6 million people with a complex disabilities in the UK. By 2026, Sense’s goal is to support 50,000 more people to communicate, experience the world and fulfil their potential, making sure no one is left out of life.
