Cambodian Children’s Fund transforms the country’s most impoverished kids into tomorrow’s leaders, by delivering education, family support and community development programs into the heart of its most needy communities.
This charity had an unusual start; Hollywood marketing executive Scott Neeson, President of 20th Century Fox International, decided to take a sabbatical before his next role. But after visiting Phnom Penh and witnessing hundreds of children and their families living and working on the toxic Steung Meanchey garbage dump, he could not forget what he’d seen and took the immense decision to give it all up and try to make a difference to the children of Cambodia.
Since 2004, the charity has been working with some of the country’s most impoverished communities. At the beginning, that was addressing the immediate health and well-being of 45 children living on the Steung Meanchey garbage dump. But today, thanks to Cambodian Children’s Fund, there are more than 2,200 students working towards a better future for themselves and their families through the charity’s award winning education program.
The aim is to provide long-lasting change through education and support, so that entire families are lifted out of poverty and a generation of educated children starts to change their whole society. Your old car donation would go towards the six core areas that make these changes happen – Education, Leadership, Community Outreach, Healthcare, Childcare and Vocational Training – all tackling the complex issues of poverty.
Transforming the lives of impoverished children through education isn’t as simple as opening free schools. Cambodian Children’s Fund addresses the issues and dysfunction that otherwise keep children away from the classroom. Removing these barriers and working with families to build plans for escaping debt and developing job skills for parents means the education is effective – providing a true pathway out of poverty for students and their families. The charity’s leadership program also ensures these students graduate with a strong sense of social justice and are committed to making a better future for themselves, but also for their community and for their country. Imagine your old car helping to fund that incredible change.
Cambodian Children’s Fund UK is independently registered in England and Wales but works closely with the international charity funding specific education and child related projects.
