As it’s a rather different way to donate to a good cause, we often find ourselves wondering what it is that may have prompted people to donate their car to a particular charity. Over the last year we’ve reached out to some of the lovely people that have chosen to use Charity Car and asked about their car donations. We’ve had some interesting and moving responses and wanted to share their stories with you…
“My Scottish mother fought Alzheimer’s for ten years in the Glen O’Dee Hospital on Royal Deeside, so the choice of charity was near & dear to our hearts. After her passing twenty years ago we began monthly donations to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Since my mother never learned to drive it seemed fitting to donate our car at the end of its life. It served our family well for over twenty years & as teenagers our thirty-something son & daughter learned to drive in the Citroen. Your DNA lives on 💗”

The Charity Car team was grateful this generous donor was prepared to share their story. So many people and their families are affected by dementia and while it’s sad to hear of their mother passing with the condition, it’s heart-warming to hear that she obviously had superb care. And of course, that their old car donation will help Alzheimer’s Research UK fund more pioneering research dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.
