The Maypole Project supports children and young people with complex medical needs and their families, carers and professionals.
Every year, around 15 of every 10,000 children are diagnosed with an illness and/or disability that threatens or shortens life. The diagnosis itself is life-shattering and stressful for every family member. The Maypole Project’s work means families can receive support from the moment of their child or young person’s diagnosis (or unnamed condition), including the antenatal period. The charity is alongside families every step of the way, providing emotional support tailored to the whole family’s needs, for as long as it is needed.
Your car donation to this amazing charity could help them to preserve the mental and physical well-being of children and young people who have complex medical needs and disabilities and to support all their family members, as well as others who are affected by their suffering or even bereavement, including carers and professionals. That support will be given wherever it is needed – at home, school, hospice or hospital.
The Maypole Project provides support in Bromley, Lewisham, Greenwich, Lambeth and Southwark and will use your car donation to fund its specialised support services in these areas.
The charity needs funds to provide its tailored therapy – helping families to help themselves. Adult therapy may be given as one-to-one counselling, couple counselling or family therapy. Child and Young Person Therapies may be delivered through play or in groups.
The charity also hosts activities and outings for children and young people with complex medical needs, SEN and disabilities. These events are designed to bring children and young people together to create peer support, make friends and importantly allow parents/carers to take a well-deserved break.
As well as educating the public about the services available to families in this situation The Maypole Project also invests time into supporting the professionals surrounding the ill child and their family who can be effected both personally and professionally. The charity has developed a support package specifically designed to meet professionals’ needs.
