More about St Columba's Hospice
Every member of staff at St Columba's understands the importance of ensuring people are cared for in the best possible way in their last months, weeks and days so they can have a good death. This charity makes time to find out what is important to patients and their families; giving them all possible choices for their care and helping them live and achieve the things they want to do. Highly skilled and compassionate staff ensure death is as physically and emotionally pain-free as possible - providing a vital service to the entire family.
St Columba's was first opened in 1977, pioneering the modern hospice concept in Scotland. At the heart of its community, the hospice now has a 30 bed inpatient unit as well as providing an outpatient service for day patients and those choosing to stay at home. Patients have a range of illnesses including cancer, motor neurone disease, heart and respiratory conditions and many more.
The hospice has a reputation for unsurpassed care delivery and support of palliative care education, and that level of care has always been provided completely free of charge to every patient and their families. As an independent charity providing round-the-clock support, the charity is reliant on donations to sustain its vital work.
