The aim of East Herts CFR’s is to increase the survival rate of patients suffering from an out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

More about East Herts Community First Responders

East Herts CFR’s are volunteers who provide their spare time to attend life threatening 999 calls in their local communities, these calls can include falls, breathing problems, collapse, seizures, chest pain and cardiac arrest etc. A Cardiac Arrest is when a patient’s heart stops beating and they stop breathing; for every minute life-saving immediate care is not provided, the chance of survival diminishes by 10%. East Herts CFR’s can provide the life-saving treatment within the first few vital minutes, which can mean the difference between life and death.

The role of a community first responder aside from clinical patient contact includes promoting and engaging at community events. East Herts CFR’s attend local community events to engage with the public to increase awareness of life saving skills by teaching them Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other basic life support skills which can help save lives, also the appropriate and responsible use of the emergency 999 call system.

Volunteer responders from East Herts CFR’s, attend a wide range of emergency calls from small injuries (i.e. falls) to more life-threatening calls (i.e. strokes and cardiac arrest). East Herts CFR’s are raising funds to purchase a rapid response vehicle (RRV) which would allow the continuation of a volunteer run emergency service for the community. By having an RRV, it would mean that more patients would be able to receive life-saving treatment, as it would allow them to attend the scene and starting life-saving interventions earlier.

Your car donation could help to support these special volunteers and this vital service, by helping to fund life-saving equipment, to reach the sickest of patients quickly. The community run organisation is not funded by the NHS or government funding pathways, which means that the charity must raise funds to continue its work from the generosity of the public and small businesses.

The first few minutes of a life-threatening emergency call can be critical to the recovery of the patient; East Herts Community First Responders provide an invaluable role within the community and in the lives of the patients they help to save. The donation of your old car could help to make all the difference. Saving a life.
