February is home to World Cancer Day, the single initiative for the entire world to unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic - the latest statistics show 18 million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2018. To mark this significant day and the phenomenal work undertaken by this charity partner, and board member of the Union for International Cancer Control, Cancer Research UK is our Partner of the Month!

After that epic intro we’re going to dive straight into some simple stats. Over the last 40 years cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled! While cancer may still be one of the scariest words out there, the work being done by CRUK is saving more lives every day. While just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more in the 1970s, today 2 in 4 survive.

The charity’s ambition is to accelerate that progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034. We are excited that your old car donations are, and can continue to help that progress happen - funding the ground-breaking research undertaken by the world’s largest charity dedicated to saving lives through research.

The charity’s pioneering work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer has already helped save millions of lives and CRUK is the only charity to fund research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all 200 types of cancer.

CRUK says itself that it relies on many thousands of people helping in small ways to make a big difference to the lives of people with cancer. A single car donation is one of those small ways and the charity gave us an idea of how that one action can help them bring forward the day that cancers are cured…

An average scrap car donation could purchase 8 extremely accurate lab timers, helping to keep scientists on track in experiments that need very precise timings for accurate results. In the fight against cancer every second counts.

A larger scrap car donation could cover the cost of running a team of cancer nurses on the CRUK helpline for an hour. CRUK’s expert team of 10 cancer nurses answer around 12,000 enquiries every year and are on hand to offer confidential support and guidance to people affected by cancer.

Cancer may still seem intimidating and frightening and sadly all too many of us have been affected by it, but knowing the incredible efforts that are going into research and how our donations can help is undoubtedly positive. CRUK’s message is ‘Together we will beat cancer sooner’ and that’s something the Charity Car team is very happy to be a part of, by handling your generous old car donations for this incredible charity.
