October means the leaves starting to fall, Halloween, and, we wonder if you know the next one... World Animal Day! So who better for our Charity Car Partner of the Month than one of our fantastic animal and environment charities - it's Surrey Wildlife Trust.

When we first came across this charity we didn't realise what a huge amount of work they did. This enthusiastic team manages a huge 8,000 hectares of land - more than any other Wildlife Trust in England - with the help of a whopping 2000 volunteers (and they are always looking for more if you are interested!). Visitors are welcomed at over 80 diverse reserves and more than 15,000 children and young people enjoy its outdoor education program every year.

While donations to the Trust are always needed and appreciated, Surrey Wildlife Trust's flagship education centre is a focus for current fundraising to ensure it's ready to launch in March 2017. Sir David Attenborough is a person passionate about the project and said: “Surrey Wildlife Trust’s work inspiring people to love nature has never been more important. If we are to protect nature in the future we have to put people at the heart of it. Nower Wood is therefore one of the most important places in Surrey and it is vital that the work there continues to inspire more and more people.”

Admittedly we might be slightly bias, as David Attenborough is a rather popular figure in the Charity Car office, but even if we didn't know he was behind this project we would still be hoping to help their ongoing fundraising efforts with more car donations. And we are already planning our visit to the centre next year!

In the meantime, it's World Animal Day on the 4th. The official aim of the day is to 'raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe'. So whether you are planning to take your dog on an extra walk, give a home to a stray cat, build a home for a wild hedgehog or share the day on Facebook to raise awareness, we have some great suggestions for you from Surrey Wildlife Trust...

- Like we said this charity relies on its volunteers and you could be one of them, getting to enjoy some fun, friendship and fitness along the way! Take a look here for more information.

- RiverSearch is a great way for the public to help monitor their local waterways and support is always needed for training and equipment.

- From Spring 2017 you could become a Hedgerow Hero, as Surrey Wildlife Trust will be training people from the local community how to monitor hedgerows, help collect data and work with the charity to improve the landscape generating native wildlife.

- It's also 'Wild About Gardens' week later this month and the charity will be telling us more about how we can do more to support wildlife in our gardens, with a particular focus on bats!

So keep an eye on Charity Car's facebook page for more Surrey Wildlife Trust information coming up over the month ahead - we will be telling you about everything from tots going wild to a novel way to get your Christmas tree!
