December is finally here! Although there’s so much going on politically and environmentally, we’re trying to focus on having a cheerful Christmas! And let’s face it, Christmas is all about the children… So, we are thrilled to have Save the Children as our Partner of the Month, and share with you why this charity is so important.
Save the Children has stood up for children’s rights for a century and continues to exist to help every child reach their full potential. There is no other cause working so extensively across the globe – in more than 100 countries - to make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be.
Your support this festive season could save or change a child’s life - from providing treatment for severe malnutrition, to essential household items like a pushchair or cot-bed to struggling families in the UK. Obviously we’re delighted to take care of your old car donations to this charity all year round, but this month we’re also hoping you’ll join us in Save the Children’s fun fundraiser ‘Christmas Jumper Day’!

On the 13th Save the Children is asking supporters to don their favourite Christmas jumper and donate just £2. The Charity Car team is very excited about the prospect of wearing their most festive gear and having an even better reason to try and out-do each other with seasonal style! There have even been mentions from the more competitive members of our team getting a Christmas jumper on a car… but we’re waiting for the 13th to see if that actually happens! (We were also wondering where the car’s £2 donation was going to come from – it’s probably wishful thinking that there’ll be more than a sticky sweet wrapper and a 5p coin between the seats!)
Whether you have an old car to donate or you’re just donning your Christmas jumper the funds you provide will go towards the Save the Children and its partners’ main goals: that by 2030, no child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday, all children learn from a quality basic education, and violence against children is no longer tolerated.
Achieving those goals means funding Save the Children’s innovative solutions to the problems facing children all over the world right now. Your old wheels could help fund the digital app helping parents in the UK support their children’s early language skills, or the development with GSK of an antiseptic gel that could save nearly half a million babies’ lives over the next five years.

While this amazing charity works towards the bigger picture, it is still taking care of the individual children that desperately need help – because every one of them has something special to bring to the world. When little Salma* in Ethiopia got sick with pneumonia, she got the specialist medical care she needed. When Louren* in Kenya was unable to walk, he was given physiotherapy to help him take his first steps. And when Ali* in the West Bank was struggling to cope with the conflict around him, he was given one-to-one counselling. It’s children like these your old car could help in the hands of Save the Children.
So, whether you’re focussed on the upcoming election, or the climate crisis, or you just want to enjoy Christmas, do join us in supporting this incredible charity and get involved with some meaningful Christmas spirit so every child has the opportunity to become who they want to be.
