Remember remember the whole of November... because our Partner of the Month is The Children's Hospital Charity!

In this month of fireworks we are delighted to get this dedicated charity into the light and hopefully increase awareness of the need for funds (and car donations!) to support this special hospital.

The Children's Hospital Charity is linked to Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust - one of four stand-alone specialist children's hospitals in the UK. Children are referred from all over the UK and even across the globe, to receive some of the best medical and surgical services in the country, with world-leading clinicians in the fields of paediatric care and research. The charity works hard to fund facilities and services that the NHS does not cover, from vital research and life-saving equipment to creating a comfortable, engaging environment for young patients going through difficult treatment.

Before many of us worked for Charity Car we didn't realise how much charities such as this supplemented the NHS service. It's in fact this small charity that makes The Children's Hospital, Sheffield, a world-leading provider of paediatric care, with over 260,000 patient visits each year. It has dedicated centres for neurological conditions, youth mental health issues and learning disabilities, as well as running a principal treatment centre for children with cancer and leukaemia. Emergency care is also given to over 52,000 children every year as the hospital is a designated major trauma centre.

None of this work would be possible without the donations that the charity generates. And Charity Car is delighted to be able to support that fundraising by enabling the public to donate old cars to this wonderful cause.

While it's a fantastic achievement, and testament to the efforts of the charity and the hospital, that the trust's reputation for providing outstanding specialist care has increased the demand for services year-on-year. That also means that the hospital's physical condition needs constant rejuvenation and will always need supporters' help.

Sheffield Children's Hospital

Most people know how distressing it can be to visit hospital, and it's even more daunting for children undergoing treatment. The Charity Car team were delighted to hear that current donations are being directed towards the hospital charity's latest fundraising campaign - the 'Make it Better' appeal - which has been developed to help match world-class care with world-class facilities. It's proven that the right environment can influence well-being and comfort for patients, so creating the best possible environment for children to get better quicker is important.

It might be hard to imagine a rusty old car going hand in hand with a calming modern clinic environment but that's exactly what an old set of wheels could help to achieve...

An average scrap car could pay for colourful plants in the hospital's patient sensory garden, creating a relaxing environment for children and their families. And a donated car that has enough life left in it to be auctioned could fund furnishings for the hospital's playrooms or parent rooms, making the clinic more comfortable and giving parents a place to relax whilst loved ones are receiving treatment.

The passionate Children's Hospital Charity team thinks their hospital is amazing, but they will never stop striving to make it better. We can help them, so let's do it together. An old car donation could help to fund life-saving medical equipment, carry out pioneering research or make the clinic more comfortable for thousands of children who visit The Children's Hospital, Sheffield. Either way the car gets to go out with a helpful bang!
