Charity Car is Nutty about Acorns

 ...Acorns Children's Hospice that is!

Our wonderful Charity Car Partner of the Month, Acorns, is celebrating its 30th year providing care, support, fun and laughter for children with life limiting or life threatening conditions and their families.

Not only is 2018 the charity's 30th year, but this November the whole globe is marking Universal Children's Day on the 20th, so the Charity Car team wanted to highlight this special cause from our 'Children' donation category. Acorns has a profound effect on the lives of the children it supports and their entire families - helping over 1,100 families last year. But it needs over a million pounds every year to maintain the vital services it provides.

With a fundraising goal that high, you might wonder what good a single donation can really do, but every pound helps and Acorns is so grateful for every car donated. To put it into perspective, the lovely people at Acorns told us that £100 (currently an average recycled car donation) could fund a family staying overnight at a hospice with their loved ones - providing the most important kind of support at the most difficult time. Even a small scrap car donation could fund an essential physio session for a child.

Obviously we're always delighted to find that there's life left in the cars donated to our Charity Partners and donations generated by auctions can fund significant events - Acorns told us that £500 would enable them to take a group of 30 siblings on a trip, giving them a much needed break. This important 'sibling service' is just one specialist area that Acorns addresses, with holistic services offered to all their families, including emergency and end of life care, therapeutic and psychosocial support, family support and short break provision.

Acorns facilities are situated across the heart of the country with hospices in Birmingham (opened in 1988 this was only the third children’s hospice in the world at the time!), the Black Country and the Three Counties. All three hospices offer hydrotherapy pools and spas, multisensory rooms, complementary therapies, play and activity areas with up-to-date IT equipment and landscaped gardens.

It's hard to get across how special the environment is that Acorns has created, but you can see it in this fantastic short film they sent us.

Hopefully now you can see why the Charity Car team is so enthusiastic (nutty!) about Acorns and why we'd love it if you could spread the word about this cause during November.

If you have an old car you'd like to donate to Acorns so they can help a child enjoy the life they have, then you can go straight to the Acorns donation page.
