Before you get too excited, we're not about to tell you that Royal Trinity Hospice is giving cars as Christmas presents this year! But our fantastic Partner of the Month for December is doing something much more important. And an old car could help to provide the funds for that work...

Trinity provides skilled, compassionate end of life care to people and support for their families in its central and south west London community, covering seven boroughs. That's a huge 1,500 people every year, with services include nursing and medical care, emotional and practical support, welfare advice, occupational and physiotherapy, complementary therapies, spiritual care and creative activities.

Christmas, a time most of us look forward to, can be a particularly difficult time of year for those in hospice care. Some people may be celebrating their last Christmas, whilst others will be remembering loved ones. Trinity does everything possible to make Christmas Day a special occasion for inpatients and their loved ones. The chef prepares a wonderful Christmas lunch; there is wine, music and a present for every patient. They even help to create a Christmas Day early for some families, which means so much. All of this is made possible by the 'Christmas at Trinity' fund - a special donation pot for this time of year to make sure families have the best experience they can. Donations can be made on their website, and of course the Charity Car team would be delighted to pass on the funds raised from recycling old cars donated to Trinity.

All of Trinity's vital patient and family services are free to those that use them, but with just 25% of the charity's income provided by the NHS, Trinity relies on the support of the public and local community to raise an additional £9 million each year to be able to continue to provide their services. If your old car will last you over Christmas, whenever it does reach the end of its days your donation would still be gratefully received. You can find out more on the Charity Car website.

The Charity Car team was surprised to learn that two thirds of the people Trinity supports are cared for in their own homes, with last year over 3,500 visits made by Trinity's team of community nurses to patients' homes to help people avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Outpatient services are also made available at Mulberry Place to help improve the wellbeing of patients, families and carers through a wide range of services, including physiotherapy, reflexology, yoga, and art therapy.

For Trinity's Inpatient care they have over 50 specialist nurses working in a purpose built centre in Clapham, providing personalised care. Many of those inpatients leave the hospice; lots of patients come to manage symptoms that they are struggling with at home. The Inpatient centre is also where care is provided for patients at an advanced stage of their illness, making them as comfortable as possible and allowing them to live every moment.

And Trinity's work doesn't end there - to improve end of life care for more people than can be reached with direct services, they give support to and share skills with other care providers including care homes, hospitals, GPs and district nurses. Last year Trinity’s clinical team delivered a whopping 6,500 hours of education.

Trinity does so much to raise funds and spirits over the Christmas period - keep an eye on our Charity Car Facebook page for all the updates over December. We'll be letting you know about everything from carol services to awards, bargain gift ideas and maybe even the Christmas number one?!
