With the start of a new month the team at Charity Car wanted to focus on a cause that might be growing in awareness, but really needs our help... A huge welcome to our brand new Official Partner, and our Partner of the Month for August - Alzheimer's Research UK!

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the world’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure.

Here in the Charity Car office we obviously find ourselves talking about all sorts of causes as we have so many wonderful charities on-board. But something we've noticed recently is the increase in conversations we've had about people we know and their families being affected by dementia. Maybe it's because we're getting older, but it's a scary, often distressing condition that is made much worse by knowing there is currently no known cure.

Family dealing with Dementia

This is where Alzheimer's Research UK is coming to the rescue! This incredible charity is ploughing all its passion and know-how into, yes you guessed it, research. Pioneering research into the causes and treatments of Alzheimer's to ensure that we get to a cure as fast as possible. In fact their mission is to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025!

Obviously you can find out much more on their superb website, but to briefly explain, dementia is not a disease in itself. Dementia is actually just a word used to describe a group of symptoms that occur when brain cells stop working properly. That can happen in different, specific parts of the brain, which can affect how you think, remember and communicate. Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia and therefore the one you hear about the most, but there are other types of dementia and it is possible to have more than one of these strains at the same time.

Without effective treatments, one in three children born today will die with dementia. Today, there are no dementia survivors. But Alzheimer's Research UK will change this, and we are very excited that your old car donations could start to help play a roll in funding that essential work. Roll... wheels... cars driving. Sorry, but you know what we're like when there's a car pun to be had!

So how could your old wheels make a difference? Whether your little old car raises just £25 in scrap value or maybe you have a vehicle with more life left in it that might raise a couple of hundred at auction, every penny is valuable to this charity fighting dementia. Your donation can enable their scientists and supporters to unite the big thinkers in this field and fund the innovative science that will actually deliver a cure.

Researcher working for for Alzheimer's Research UK

Alzheimer’s Research UK, with your support, is focusing its energies in four key areas of action: understanding the diseases that cause dementia, diagnosing people earlier and more accurately, reducing risk - backed by the latest evidence, and treating dementia effectively. And it's these four areas that will together make a real difference to people's lives.

Your old car could help to bring power to Alzheimer's Research UK and create a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia. Let's make August all about Alzheimer's Research UK and spread the word about this incredible charity.
