Where does a year go?! While we marvel at the speed twelve months can whizz by (and perhaps get caught up in the stress of the encroaching festive season!) it's easy to forget how much we've achieved in that year…

The Charity Car team has just had a little festive brew (no boozy eggnog we assure you, just a cuppa in a Christmas mug!) and after a little chat about our work over the last twelve months we are all feeling rather jolly! So, we thought we'd share some of the highlights with you...

Charity Car kicked off 2018 with a great start!

2018 started with a new Partner of the Month of course and gave us the opportunity to introduce a brand new partner - Alcohol Concern (now Alcohol Change UK if you want to find out more info). This passionate charity sold us all on the benefits of Dry January and hopefully some of you!

One of the biggest car donations we've seen this year came in January - that was a whopping £2,944 we passed on to Oxfam from one single generous donor. There must have been some left-over Christmas spirit in the air!

We were soon to welcome several more new charity partners to the scheme including the well-known British Heart Foundation, Book Bus - promoting literacy in developing countries, The Donkey Sanctuary and Anxiety UK. All super causes and great additions to the Charity Car family.

Early in the year we were also joined by The Lunar Project (our current Partner of the Month) and we are so proud to be part of this new charity's journey... Started by a few friends who were concerned for the homeless people they'd seen, the charity had only just been registered at the start of the year and has grown from strength to strength tackling period poverty in York and now inspiring others across the whole country!

2018 has been a year of huge ups and downs in terms of social news in the UK, but one of the most positive things the Charity Car team thinks the country is finally tackling is breaking the stigma of mental health issues. We marked the importance of Mental Health Awareness with CLASP and Women at WISH being our fist ever duo Partners of the Month in May. If you helped spread the news about these causes you may have helped somebody reach out - thank you.

We hit the headlines in May!

May brought a little pat on the back for the Charity Car team when we were sent a link from the UK Fundraising website - journalist Melanie May had written an article on 14 great corporate-charity partnerships and we were on the list!

In Summer we helped Butterfly Conservation mark its 50th birthday by making this significant charity our Partner of the Month. Several of the Charity Car team enjoyed taking part in the Big Butterfly Count with their families and become a bit obsessed with which fluttery creatures they saw out and about.

During August a few more charities joined us and educated us on some very different causes. Through Whale and Dolphin Conservation we learnt about the species that are in trouble and what we can do to help. Heeley City Farm - a unique charity in Sheffield that runs valuable community projects tackling everything from inner-city youth issues to supporting people with dementia - showed us how diverse a charity could be. The Maypole Project also joined Charity Car so old car donations could help this charity support children and young people with complex medical needs and their families, carers and professionals.

The team got a bit muddy in September!

Now we may just have mentioned this briefly (ahem!) earlier in the year, but did you know the Charity Car team tackled a 5k obstacle race... through mud... to raise some extra cash for our charity partners? And did we mention the word EXTREME?! September was certainly a stand-out month for all of us at Charity Car and the Xrunner course proved to be one huge team-building task and a fantastic fundraiser, with a final pot of £2000 shared between all the charities that had car donations during the month. None of us have ever enjoyed having a bath so much in our lives... and some crazy people have even considered doing it next year!

September was home to another important date in our diaries - Recycle Week! As you can probably imagine, we spend a lot of our time thinking about recycling cars (don't laugh!) and this is the week we get to show off, I mean raise awareness, about what we actually do with your old cars... If you want to find out how we recycle a massive 95% of every car you donate that is ready for scrap, check out our recycling blog.

Heading into Autumn, Merlin MS Centre and TJ Danes Rescue both joined Charity Car - two very different but worthy causes that started from humble beginnings. The Merlin MS Centre provides therapy and support, and raises awareness for those affected by a long term neurological condition in Cornwall. TJ Danes Rescue is a unique charity rescuing and re-homing Great Danes across the UK.

In November we made Acorns our Partner of the Month to help celebrate its 30th year - what an achievement! Acorns Children's Hospice has been providing specialist palliative care and support to life limited and life threatened children and young people and their families across the heart of England for over three decades and your old car donations help with its vital work.

Several more new charities joined our ranks as we headed into winter, including the British Red Cross, the International Otter Survival Fund, Legs for Africa, RSPCA Northamptonshire and Mosac. A huge welcome to these causes.

The end of the year is always busy, no matter what industry you work in or family you look after! But we did take a little moment to celebrate before the official party season started, when we found out Charity Car hit the massive total of 400k in donations... That is over £400,000 that your generously donated cars have raised for your selected charities. A huge thank you from every charity you've helped and from every life they may have helped to change.

What a year it's been!

We hope you all have a fantastic end to 2018 and a superb start to the New Year... Charity Car can't wait to see what 2019 has in store!
