Huge Thank Yous From Our Charity Car Partners

Posted on 30th Mar 2020 by Charity Car Posted in: Latest News

Everyone in the Charity Car team was so thrilled to hear that your old car donations to our charity partners have now reached over £600,000 in total! That’s a huge amount of lives and environments transformed, and all from your old wheels! We love what your generosity and our service can do.

Our Official Charity Car Partners span an incredibly diverse range of causes and sizes, from small local charities to global organisations. They’ve also been part of the scheme for varying lengths of time – we started out with only a few charities on board! But they all have one thing in common – they are all incredibly grateful that people choose to use this unique way to support them. While they’ve seen scrap prices, and therefore donation amounts, hit record highs and lows, the saying ‘every penny counts’ really does apply and boy do those pennies add up!

This is only a selection of the charities and donation milestones our charity partners have recently hit, but we wanted to share with you how grateful these organisations are for your generosity and the impact you’ve contributed to…

Your car donations to Alzheimer’s Research UK have now reached over £35,000! The charity is thrilled, here’s Simon McDermott, Regional Fundraising Officer (and son of the wonderful Songaminute Man!):

“We’ve been absolutely blown away by everyone’s generosity in donating their cars through Charity Car. One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime, without life-changing preventions and treatments. But the money you’ve donated will help make breakthroughs possible.
The £35,000 raised so far could support one of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s research centres of excellence, which help to bring scientists together to share the latest thinking in research, providing support for multiple small research projects, equipment and much more. So, thank you all for your donations – because of you, we will transform lives.”

Crisis is delighted that Charity Car donors have given over £14,000 in support of our work to end homelessness since the beginning of the partnership. This year, donations will enable Crisis to support over 8,000 people across Great Britain on their journey out of homelessness, through life-changing employment, housing and wellbeing services. We will also campaign fearlessly for the changes needed to end homelessness for good. With everybody in we can end homelessness: thank you to all our donors, and to Charity Car, for choosing to stand side by side with Crisis.”

Car donations for The Donkey Sanctuary now stand at over £10,000! Here’s what the charity had to say:

“We are extremely grateful to all those who have supported us during our time as a Charity Car Partner. It’s amazing that so many people have chosen to raise funds for us in this way, which enable us to ensure donkeys in the UK always have a place to go and working donkeys in other countries get the care they need and deserve.”

“From all of us at Cancer Research UK, we would like to extend our thanks to all of the wonderful supporters who have kindly given their car to Charity Car over the years. In doing so, you have managed to raise £75,000 to help us in our fight against cancer and assist us in moving closer to a cancer-free future. With the money donated, it could cover the cost of running one of our research groups at the Francis Crick Institute in London for 10 days. The Francis Crick houses 1,500 people, including 60 research groups and scientists in the fields of structural biology, genetics, mathematics and computing. Working collaboratively, these researchers are helping to unravel the mysteries behind cancer, improving the lives of patients around the world so your money really is helping!”

Your old car donations to RSPB now stand at over £10,000 and the charity is delighted:

“It’s incredible that our supporters have donated over £10,000 to our work, all by recycling their car with Charity Car. These vital funds will enable us to continue our work saving iconic species like the Turtle Dove, fantastic landscapes like the Flows in Scotland, and supporting our work around the globe.”

Make-A-Wish Chief Executive Jason Suckley said:

“Make-A-Wish® UK would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the team at Charity Car and its generous customers who have so lovingly recycled their used cars in this unique and effective way, raising more than £14,000 for us. Every day, the lives of 15 families in the UK are changed forever when their child is diagnosed with a critical illness. Medical appointments become the upmost priority, with the joy and innocence of childhood having to take a backseat. Our greatest challenge is to reach every one of these children and we can only do so with the support provided by partners like Charity Car over the years.”

Car donations for the MS Society now stand at over £5,000. Here’s what Barbara Spreadborough, Head of Corporate and Trust Partnerships had to say:

“We are thrilled to have reached this milestone with Charity Car and are enormously grateful to every person who has chosen to support the MS Society by donating their old car. During this partnership we have introduced Specialist Advisers to our Helpline, awarded grants for vital items such as wheelchairs to ensure independence, provided free legal support to help people fight wrongful dismissal, and continued to invest in crucial MS research including a nationwide clinical trial for a treatment to slow disability progression in secondary progressive MS.
Without your support we simply could not achieve our vision of a world free from the effects of MS.”

Thank you from MS Society

Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home has now received over £8,000 from your generous car donations. They are thrilled and were keen to thank their generous supporters:

“On behalf of all the staff, volunteers and animals at the Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home I would really like to thank all those who have supported us in the time we have been a Charity Car partner. £8000 is enough money to provide food for all our animals for an entire year, which is truly amazing.”

Your old car donations to the National Autistic Society have now hit £6,000! The charity had this message for you:

“By donating your car to The National Autistic Society through Charity Car, you are helping us realise our vision in creating a society that works for autistic people. Your donations help us to transform lives by providing support and practical advice for the 700,000 autistic people in the UK, and to change attitudes by improving understanding of autism and the difficulties people face. Your funds also help us to build relationships with organisations and government to ensure more autism-friendly spaces, services and laws. Thank you so much for your support.”

Marie Curie’s Corporate Partnerships Officer, Sophie Rafter said:

“A huge thank you to everyone supporting Marie Curie through Charity Car. Donating your unwanted car truly makes such a valuable difference and we are thrilled that since our partnership began, we have received an incredible £13,000 from Charity Car. This equates to 650 hours of vital Marie Curie nursing care, allowing someone living with a terminal illness to be looked after in the comfort of their own home. Thank you for allowing us to be there.”

Thank you from Marie Curie

The last thank you we’re going to pass on today is from WaterAid:

“We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported WaterAid by donating their old cars through Charity Car, helping to raise over £25,000! That’s enough to help 1,700 people gain access to clean water, and change lives for good.”

There are many more charities, many more milestones and many more thank-yous! But hopefully this has given you an idea of the incredible impact your old cars and your generosity has had… From here in the UK to right across the globe, from donkeys and dogs to the homeless and the ill. You’ve truly helped to change lives, and as the donations carry on, more wonderful work is done.

So, THANK YOU to all of you – whether you’ve donated a car yourself, or let someone with an old car know that they can use Charity Car to support a cause they care about – you have contributed to this incredible progress.
