Charity Car Celebrates Universal Children's Day

Children are such a huge focus for us as a society, Charity Car has a whole category dedicated to Children's causes, and an old car donation can make a big difference in a child's life. And what better day to make that decision than Universal Children's Day.

We all know what it is like to be a child and how scary even small problems can be. It's hard to even imagine the scale of some of the enormous issues millions of children face across the globe - from children in the UK coping with terminal illness to orphaned children in third world countries who desperately need basic care.

The United Nations established Universal Children's Day in 1954 to promote international togetherness and improvement of children's welfare, which we all think is a superb reason for any International Day (and holds a little more gravitas than 'Have a Bad Hair Day', which apparently we missed yesterday... what a travesty!).

November 20th has since marked a huge day for Children's rights in recent history, In 1959 it was the date the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. And in 1989 it was the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UN's Universal Children's Day

So, on this momentous date, every year, the UN states: "Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals as well as young people and children themselves can play an important part in making Universal Children's Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations."

In simple terms, we can all do our bit, and of course here at Charity Car we'd love to see more old car donations to children's causes... What better way to celebrate the day than by supporting a children's charity and directly improving a child's life.

However you want to support a child in need, wherever they are in the world, we have a cause that can turn an old useless car into a ray of hope. Here's a little guide to all of our wonderful Official Charity Car Partners that focus on children…

TCHC with Harley Robert Wills

Hospice care

Both Acorns and Jessie May provide specialist hospice care for children in the UK.

Health services

We have several wonderful Official Charity Car Partners that address children's health and improvements in the services and support they receive, including Alder Hey Children's Charity, our Partner of the Month The Children's Hospital Charity, Just 4 Children, and Rainbow Trust.

We have children's charities targeting specific health issues, including speech problems, neurological issues, and cleft palates, with Afasic, bibic, and Operation Smile

Rescue services

The Children's Air Ambulance Service is a specialist helicopter rescue service.

Anti-bullying

Two brilliant causes that are tackling bullying in the UK - BulliesOut, and Bullying UK.

Global poverty

Several of our partners are working hard to help children living in poverty around the globe, whose lives desperately need turning around. We recommend reading a little bit more about what they do and how your old car donation could help: War Child, Arms Around the Child, SOS Children, Cambodian Children's Fund, Child.org, Poverty Child, and Street Child United.

BBC Children in Need

We also fundraise for the British institution that is BBC Children in Need, which held it's infamous annual appeal show just a few days ago.

Respite and wish granting

To give a ray of light in a child's life you could support CHICKS, which provides respite breaks to disadvantaged children across the UK, or donate to Make-A-Wish, that grants magical wishes to seriously ill children, giving them and their families precious memories.

Family issues

We have a few fantastic charities on-board that support children in the UK with family issues, from Families Need Fathers and Kids Need Both Parents, to The Haven, which provides a refuge for vulnerable children.

Religious causes

A Christian charity Youth for Christ also supports young people in the UK.

Donate your car to help children's charities

As you can see there's plenty to choose from and if your chosen children's charity isn't in our category, you can still donate your car to them - just let us know which charity you want to support.

However you decide to celebrate, Happy Universal Children's Day! We hope the children you know are having a wonderful day and maybe you have been able to help a child who needs it.

If you know a charity that wants to get involved with Charity Car, get in touch.
