We love welcoming in the New Year and it's made more exciting for the Charity Car team as we have a Partner of the Month to welcome too... Terrence Higgins Trust is one of the UK's most well known charity names, but the cause it fights for still needs highlighting to help end the transmission of HIV in the UK, and to empower and support people living with HIV to lead healthy lives free from prejudice and discrimination.

Following World Aids Day in December, HIV was featured heavily in the news, and it's highlighted the need for increased awareness. It's estimated that 101,200 people are living with HIV in the UK, more people than ever before, and 6,000 people are diagnosed every year. Of these, 13% are undiagnosed and do not know about their HIV infection, risking their own health and unwittingly passing it on. Four out of ten (39%) people newly diagnosed with HIV in the UK last year were diagnosed in the late-stages, once the virus has already started to damage the immune system. Terrence Higgins Trust campaigns for awareness and supports people with every aspect of living with HIV, which of course starts with testing, that your donations could help to fund.

If money is tight after Christmas for cash donations you can look at other ways to support Terrence Higgins Trust and their essential work. This is the perfect time of the year to be clearing out! So once you've bagged up your old clothes for charity, why not think about finally getting rid of that car that's on its last legs. Charity Car can collect it, recycle it and pass on the market value of scrap to Terrence Higgins Trust so you can clear out and donate at the same time. If you are keeping your old car running for a little longer (or it's already been donated via Charity Car!) Terrence Higgins Trust enables their supporters to give and to fundraise, even to volunteer, in many different ways. So with a fresh new year and a cause to feel passionate about, you can have a think about what you could do for this vital cause.

For those of you with lots of energy for the New Year you'll be excited to see the charity's 2017 calendar, which is full of opportunities to raise money for Terrence Higgins Trust running - from the Brighton Half Marathon in February to the BMW Berlin Marathon in September! Check out the full list of events, including runs, cycles and obstacle races.

If you have less desire to run and more interest in eating (as many of the Charity Car team seemed to agree) it's time to start planning the most fun you'll ever have on Pancake Day with Terrence Higgins Trust's annual Toss Off! Every penny you raise will help support people living with HIV.

However you decide to donate and whatever aspect of Terrence Higgins Trust's work that donation goes towards, ultimately it will help people with HIV live healthy and happy lives. You can find out more here

So please help spread the word - most importantly about the need for HIV awareness and increased testing, and of course how you can help raise money for this wonderful charity. The Charity Car team is looking forward to your old car donations... here's to a bumper month!
