So, you've arranged to
deliver your old car to a CarTakeBack recycling centre.
Here's what happens next.
Preparation
Please make a note of your reference number which begins 'CC';
this was shown on the printable confirmation at the end of the
submission process and will also be shown on your confirmation
e-mail. You will need this reference number when you deliver
your old car. It helps if you take your printed confirmation
with you.
Please remove any personal belongings and any rubbish.
You'll need to remove the tax disc if you wish to claim back any
remaining road tax. You can download the relevant
form on our Frequently Asked Questions
page.
On Arrival
When you arrive at the CarTakeBack recycling centre you
should park your car safely in the designated area and make sure
that you have removed all of your personal belongings, before
reporting to the main reception. You should then hand over
your printed confirmation containing your reference number.
Your car will be assessed to confirm that it meets the terms of
the Charity Car
Agreement. In particular we'll check that it
is complete and free from any additional waste.
Please hand over any documents that you have for
the car such as the MOT test certificate, service history
and handbook as well as any alarm codes and spare
keys. Don't worry if you don't have any of these items
as we'll still be able to accept your car. If your car
is to be auctioned, it can help us to achieve a higher value if you
provide as many of these items as possible.
If your car is to be auctioned
If we feel that auction is the best way to get the maximum
donation for your old car, the first thing we'll do
is help you to complete the relevant section of your
V5C registration document (log book), which you should later send
to DVLA to notify them that you've disposed of your car correctly,
and hand the rest over to the recycling centre.
We'll take care of the valeting, valuation, storage whilst
it's being sold, viewings by prospective purchasers and all of the
necessary paperwork.
If your car is to be recycled
If we feel that the best way to maximise your donation is for
your old car to be recycled, we'll ask you to hand over your entire
V5C Registration document (logbook). You don't need to inform
DVLA as we'll do this for you by issuing a DVLA Certificate of
Destruction. This can be issued whilst you wait or
sent out to you via e-mail if we have your e-mail address or
if not, then by post.
Read more on the importance of a DVLA Certificate of
Destruction.
You can rest assured that once we've accepted your old car, if
it is to be recycled this will be carried out in line with EU
regulations. All of our recycling centres are licensed by the
environmental agencies, so you won't find any of your old tyres
dumped in ditches or toxic oil tipped down the drain.

the recycling process.
Your donation
We will transfer the donation to your chosen charity once your
car has either been sold at auction or recycled. You will then
receive a confirmation e-mail to say that your donation has been
passed on to your chosen charity.
